In Need of a Coffee Alternative? Try this Collagen Matcha Latte

Looking to cut down on the coffee, but still needing that warm cup of something in the morning? Try this.

If you aren’t familiar, matcha is a form of green tea. The difference between matcha and regular green tea is that matcha is the actual tea leaf, ground up into a powdered form, whereas green tea is the tea leafs steeped in water. So as you can imagine, matcha is a bit more powerful.

Green tea is a healthy alternative to our regular caffeine fix (although coffee can definitely be part of a healthy diet), but will still give us an energy boost that helps us jump start our day. It’s also packed with antioxidants. While matcha does contain caffeine, it also has a compound called L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes a calm alertness and tempers the energy crash that often follows other caffeine sources. Fun fact: you’ll actually find L-theanine in a lot of natural sleep supplements on the market because of its calming effects!

Antioxidants are found in fruits and veggies, which is why we eat a lot of those too, right? They help defend your cells from damage caused by potentially harmful molecules known as free radicals. Matcha  has a high amount of an unique set of antioxidants called catechins, specifically EGCG, that are the most powerful and known for both it’s metabolism and cancer fighting properties.
